Naples (Fla.) Community School interior offensive lineman George Haseotes is still getting a feel for Florida State.
The 6-foot-3 and 295-pound guard/center was offered during his junior day visit in January and returned for Legacy Weekend on Saturday to see more of the program. But it's not all entirely new to Haseotes.
A year-long relationship with offensive line coach Herb Hand dating back to his time at UCF has the Seminoles in a very good position with Haseotes following his visit Saturday. A warm welcome from Mike Norvell and the entire recruiting staff didn't hurt either.
"The thing that sticks out to me most about Florida State is the way that they prioritize their guys and the way they prioritize their recruits," Haseotes said. "The first thing I did when I got on campus was meet with Coach Norvell and he was fired up to see me. It made me and my mom feel super welcome. When someone welcomes you into the building with so much enthusiasm, it's contagious. It fired me up. That trickled all the way down to the staff."
"I've known him (Hand) for a while and just being able to chop it up with him more and him having the same vibes was really awesome. It made the visit special for us," Haseotes added. "He offered me a little over a year ago when he was at UCF. I've known him for a minute. He came to our spring practices last year. When he got the job, he called me and told me about it."
Despite knowing Hand for over a year, Saturday was the first time that the four-star prospect got to see Hand coach on the practice field.
"He brought juice like I couldn't believe. I didn't expect that out of him. He is an old-school coach. The best style of coach in my opinion is the old-school way of acting but then new school technique, which he brought to the o-line. All the new stuff that everyone is doing, he made part of his routine while having so much energy. We were talking after practice and he lost his voice completely and he was talking how it happens every practice," Haseotes said.
Following the practice, Haseotes got to speak with former Florida State players for their perspective on the program.
"The biggest thing for me is seeing the dudes that transferred in late and their love for the program," Haseotes said. "Braden Fiske and Jared Verse — two guys that were studs in the league this year but weren't at Florida State for a long time. They both said Florida State was their home. You can just tell that through all the players, old and new, it's contagious the way they really love the program and would die for it."
Haseotes is making a round of trips to interested programs this spring, including the one to Florida State. The prior week he was at Missouri, while early in the spring he was at Florida. He also has visits to Vanderbilt and Stanford coming up and a possible trip to the Carolinas to check out new North Carolina coach Bill Belichick and the other programs in the area.
Following those trips, Haseotes will sit down and decide on where he wants to take his official visits.
With the relationship with Hand and a great Legacy Weekend visit, Haseotes says that the Seminoles will be getting an official visit barring a crazy change in circumstances.
Haseotes is a four-star prospect, ranked as the No. 15 interior offensive lineman in the country.
