Three-star defensive end Rick Leonard grew up a Florida State fan despite living in Maryland. His father and uncle are both alumni. Last month, he made his first visit a visit to FSU during the Jimbo Fisher camp.

The announcement came a little later than expected, but on Tuesday during a planned announcement, he picked Florida State.

"I have committed to Florida State University. All glory goes to God. #Noles. #FSU #FearTheSpear," he posted on Twitter.

During the camp, he got a chance to tour the campus, get to know the players and meet the staff. He planned ahead of time to wait a week or two before making a decision so he could discuss it with his family.

Prior to his visit, the 6-foot-7, 250 pound prospect said the decision would come down to a lot of factors like how he felt on campus, his connection with coaches and players. He also wanted to see the coaching staff in action (at the camp) and how the camp participants responded to their coaching. Although it may have been his first experience on the campus, Seminoles, he already knew a lot about the program.

"It's a powerhouse defense, the way they play football over there at FSU and they just put three defensive ends in the league last year and 11 players overall," Leonard told Warchant.com in June. "I believe they had the second rated defense last year and I talk with Coach (Sal) Sunseri and he has a great track record at Alabama."

Leonard becomes commitment No. 24 for Florida State and the second commitment at defensive end. He picked FSU over Clemson and Maryland. His commitment adds further geographic variety to FSU's class. The 'Noles have from commitments seven different states (Mississippi, Virginia, Maryland, Georgia, Florida, Texas and South Carolina).
