On the same day he landed his new defensive coordinator, Florida State head coach Willie Taggart has reached a deal with his new special-teams coordinator as well.

Warchant has confirmed that Alonzo Hampton will be joining Taggart's staff after spending the last season as an analyst for the Oregon football program. The hire was first reported by Tomahawk Nation.

Before that, Hampton was the defensive backs coach at South Florida for two years under Taggart. He was also the DBs coach at Western Kentucky during Taggart's final two years leading the Hilltoppers' program.

Hampton has had a varied coaching career. In between Western Kentucky and South Florida, he spent two years as an assistant coach at Tift County (Ga.) High School in 2013 and 2014.

Before his stint at Western Kentucky, he spent five seasons (2006-2010) at Arkansas-Pine Bluff. In 2010, he was defensive coordinator.

Hampton began his coaching career at Warren High School (2000-03), where he served as defensive coordinator and as the head coach of the track and field team.

He played football and ran track at Louisiana-Monroe. He also played professionally in NFL Europe, starting at cornerback in the World Bowl in 1998 and 1999.
