It’s time to look ahead to the upcoming season by breaking down the Warchant Top 40 -- a list of the 40 players we expect to have the biggest impact for the Florida State football team. (Note: This is not necessarily the 40 most talented players, but the players we believe will have the opportunity and capability to make the biggest impact this season.)
The list, which was compiled by Gene Williams and Ira Schoffel of Warchant.com, and Jeff Cameron of ESPN Radio Tallahassee, will be revealed in segments. Up first will be players 40 through 31.
Player No. 40: Redshirt Sophomore Wide Receiver George Campbell
The former five-star receiver has battled injuries since he enrolled at Florida State in 2015. Many hoped he would have a breakout season in 2016, but a core muscle injury sidelined him for the entire year. He also missed the majority of April’s spring practices. During the ACC's recent media Kickoff event, head coach Jimbo Fisher indicated that the talented receiver was still recovering from his injury and may not be fully healthy in time for August preseason camp.
During his freshman season in 2015, Campbell recorded three catches for 42 yards. He also was named as the Top Newcomer on special teams at the end-of-the-year banquet.
NOTE: This season could be boom or bust for Campbell. If he can fully recover from his nagging injuries, there’s every opportunity for the talented wideout to make a splash at receiver. But he hasn’t seen the field in a game for well over a year.

Player No. 39: Sophomore Linebacker Emmett Rice
With veterans Ro’Derrick Hoskins and Matthew Thomas pretty much set as the primary starters, it might be difficult for Rice to see extended playing time absent injury. Last season, fellow 2016 class member Dontavious Jackson saw more playing time off the bench. Also, junior college transfer Adonis Thomas was impressive in spring practice and will compete with Rice for playing time off the bench. However, with Sh’Mar Kilby-Lane no longer on the team, there isn't quite as much depth as expected. So Rice should have some opportunities in the fall.
NOTE: Absent injuries to the starters, Rice should be a dependable backup and a solid contributor on special teams.
