Cook confident after Pro Day: 'I did everything they've wanted me to do'

Assessing Dalvin Cook's NFL Draft stock appears to be complex yet simple. There's enough to suggest he'll go in the first round. Where exactly he'll be taken is really the only mystery remaining.

Cook, as expected, was the star of Florida State's Pro Day on Tuesday at the Albert J. Dunlap Athletic Training Facility. He skipped the opening battery of tests, resting on the numbers he posted at last month's Indianapolis Combine, yet he grabbed the spotlight after recording an unofficial time of 4.43 seconds in the 40-yard dash.

That was an improvement over his previous time of 4.49 seconds in Indianapolis. His 40 time set, Cook would finish Tuesday's workout by delivering a smooth performance in position drills.

"I feel like I left everything out on the field, and that's the most important part," Cook said. "Going out there, giving it your all and giving everything that you have in your body, and I feel like I did that and I had a good overall day."

Cook said he was pleased with his performance as a whole. While he's usually not the most gregarious of personalities when dealing with the media, he was extremely upbeat while speaking to reporters. The only visible sign of frustration came when he talked about running the 40.

Cook said no matter what he ran at the NFL Combine, he always planned on running again at Pro Day.

"There were rumors that I wasn't going to run, and I never said that out my mouth," Cook said. "So whatever I did at the Combine, I was going to run the 40 again at Pro Day."

FSU's latest Pro Day had a different feel than ones in previous years. When former quarterback Jameis Winston starred at the 2015 event, it was more circus than combine. Every NFL franchise, several media outlets and numerous FSU fans wanted to catch a first-hand glimpse of Winston, who would be taken No. 1 overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Last season's Pro Day was also uniquely vibrant. At the time, it was thought Seminoles cornerback Jalen Ramsey might go No. 1. Ramsey's stellar performance at the NFL Combine generated discussion of him going first to his hometown Tennessee Titans and becoming the first defensive back to be taken with the top pick in more than 40 years. The Titans eventually traded out of that spot, and Ramsey would go fifth to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

This year's Pro Day was well-attended by pro scouts but didn't generate quite the same turnout as recent years. Part of it had to do with the NFL holding league meetings in Arizona while other programs, like Florida, also held their Pro Day on Tuesday.
