Lewis gets the offer he was hoping for

One of the best parts of summer camps, like the one put on by Florida State every July, is when a player comes in and impresses the coaching staff enough to earn a scholarship offer. That's exactly what happened for Albuquerque, New Mexico's Aaron Lewis. The 6-foot-3, 260-pound defensive end recently earned offers from Texas and Georgia Tech, and on Friday the 'Noles were added to the list. It probably didn't his stock in the eyes of the coaching staff that he was clocked running a 4.69 40-yard dash during Wednesday's testing.
Over the last couple weeks the Lewis' family have made trips to Austin (TX), Atlanta (Ga.) and Tallahassee (Fla.) to attend summer camps. During this time the family car has racked up nearly 2,000 miles. On Saturday morning they packed up and will begin the long drive back to New Mexico. But it was all worth it according to the all-state defensive end.
"It was mainly for me to get around to the campuses and see what they are like," Lewis said of his trips. "I wanted to come and see the coaches in person, see the character and moral of the team, see the campuses and the stadiums."
As for the past couple days at Florida State, it couldn't have gone better.
"I love it," Lewis said. "It's a great stadium - it's huge. I like the stuff they do on the outside with the bricks and the new facilities. The coaches were awesome. They are always upbeat and happy."
After getting an offer, hitting it off with the coaches and being awed by the campus, FSU is now a major player for his services, but there will be some competition. In addition to FSU, Lewis lists Texas, Georgia Tech, and Texas Tech as other schools he has a strong interest in. But it does sound like two schools are leading the way.
"Florida State and Texas, they are on the top right now," Lewis said. "I like them a little more."
Lewis says he hopes to make his decision on a college sometime next month.
As a junior, Lewis was a first team All-State, All-City and All-District selection last year as both a defensive end and offensive tackle, recording 88 tackles and 25 sacks. He is fully qualified and carries a 3.0 GPA in the classroom.
