MIAMI -- Rivals hosted its second 3 Stripe Camp in the state of Florida this past weekend, and the headline performer was FSU commit and five-star running back James Cook.
Cook shined in the position drills and also spoke at length with Warchant about his strong feelings for Florida State and head coach Jimbo Fisher. In this Miami Camp Insider Report, we get the latest from Cook and other top FSU targets, and we also check out how the Seminoles' recruiting efforts are going in South Florida.
Cook dazzles at Miami Rivals camp, says FSU will be tough to beat
No matter the setting, obstacles or even the heat, Miami Central RB James Cook doesn't seemed fazed by competition or adversity. If anything, Cook seems to crave it -- at one point during Sunday's camp, he kept going back to the front of the line so that he could do more reps.
Cook not only impressed by running so many one-on-one routes against defenders, but it also seemed as if no one at the camp had an answer for slowing him down. Cook showcased a very impressive burst off the line, and his speed increased through the end of his routes.
Not surprisingly, he earned the RB MVP for the Miami camp.
"It was a lot of fun to me. But when I come out here," Cook said, "I'm ready to work. And that's the way I looked at it with the one-on-ones. I want to get better, and you have to be ready to deliver. My routes were very good, although I did drop my first pass, and that would have been a score. It was a good workout though. I liked it."
Cook has obviously added some size to his frame; he measured in at 6 feet, 186 pounds. And he says that running track has helped him in several areas.
"I feel my burst is quicker and under control now," said Cook, who is the younger brother of former FSU star Dalvin Cook. "It feels really good. But I want to get faster and keep perfecting my route-running. I'm a very versatile back, and I want to show that anytime I take the field."
