IMG Academy -- Joshua Moore, DE Nolan Smith, OL Evan Neal, others
BRADENTON, Fla. -- Attending a spring practice at IMG Academy is a different experience than just about anywhere else on our Spring Recruiting Tour. When we stopped by last Wednesday, more than 15 college coaches were in attendance, including FSU, Georgia, Auburn, LSU, Notre Dame and others.
During our visit, we got a glimpse of the wide assortment of talented players who are attracting those coaches. And we started with Rivals250 WR Joshua Moore, who is making the transition from his old high school in Yoakum, Texas.
"Competing against the best every day has been incredible," Moore said. "I love every minute of it. You get a lot out of it. You get better, challenged every single day. You have to prove yourself every practice."
Moore got a big treat on Wednesday when his possible college position coach was in attendance -- FSU wide receivers coach Lawrence Dawsey.
"It meant a lot to see him here," Moore said. "We have been texting a lot the past two or three weeks, so I knew he was coming, and I just had to stay focused on practice. I noticed him watching me in the drills, and he's always critiquing me on my routes. So I wanted to show him how I've been working on it."
There have been plenty of positives for Moore since he arrived at IMG Academy. One is the competition, and another is the highly acclaimed performance training. Moore said he already has taken advantage of this in his short time in Bradenton.
"Yes sir, I have gained some weight," the 6-foot, 3-inch wideout said. "I think the first week I gained eight pounds. I'm doing my part, and they are doing their part in feeding me right and getting my body right. I'm up to 180 pounds."
When it comes to recruiting, the big chatter about Moore recently has centered around his visit to Nebraska. Moore told Warchant that he really enjoyed the trip and loved interacting with the Cornhuskers' coaches and fans. He said he was surprised how much he enjoyed it, having never been there before.
Another surprise for Moore came when his brother Jordan pulled a bit of a prank and posted on Twitter that they would be attending college together; Jordan Moore is currently committed to Texas A&M.
"He kind of put me in a bind with that comment or tweet," Moore said with a laugh. "But I think he did it not because he actually believed it, but to get people excited. I texted him right away. ... I really don't know why he did that."
From the sounds of it, fans won't have to wait long to find out where Joshua Moore is going to college. He said he plans to make his commitment on June 18, and he likely will choose between FSU, Texas A&M, LSU and Nebraska.
There has been a lot of talk about Moore's visits to LSU and Nebraska, which he did find impressive, but the four-star receiver said he has very strong feelings about the Seminoles as well. He said he is particularly close with FSU quality control assistant Tino Sunseri.
