STOP 18: PENSACOLA (CATHOLIC)
Pensacola Catholic has been known to produce some impressive talent over the years, with players like D.J. Pettway going to Alabama and Delvin Purifoy coming to Florida State.
In one of three Pensacola stops on our Spring Recruiting Tour, we stopped by to check on the Crusaders, who again have some elite young talent that has garnered Florida State's interest.
Young, but elite stars heavily on the radar as FSU targets at Catholic
Youth is clearly being served for Pensacola Catholic and head coach Greg Seibert, as his Crusaders stock up for the future. One of the biggest names that should emerge this season, despite being a 2019 prospect, is defensive end Kerrick Teamer.
"Kerrick played wide receiver for us last year, returned kicks and he'll play some outside linebacker," Seibert said. "He's 6-foot-4, 226 pounds right now. He has great length to rush the passer, but is athletic enough to cover as a 'backer. He really seeks out contact."
The big question for Teamer might be which position he is projected to play in college. Some project him as a wide receiver, while others like him at defensive end and linebacker. As a freshman, he had 260 yards receiving. On defense, he recorded more than 30 tackles and three sacks.
"Defensively, he is really aggressive, physical and speedy," Seibert said. "We are really not sure how big he's going to be. He might outgrow playing receiver. If he puts on weight, he could be a defensive end. He's in the conversation as one of the best in regards to potential. He has a lot to work on, but he's special."
Teamer said he plans to visit FSU this summer for a camp.
"I've been interested in FSU for a while, so that's a school I want to check out," he said. "I watched Florida as a young kid, so that's probably another place I want to be at their camp. But FSU is a school I'm interested in for sure."
Although college coaches are not yet allowed to have direct contact with him at school, per NCAA rules, Teamer said he knows that FSU defensive coordinator Charles Kelly stopped by recently to see him. He said he talks with Kelly on the phone.
