The Florida State Seminoles got their 2019 class ignited again Monday evening as Monroe, N.C., quarterback Sam Howell announced he has committed to the Seminoles.

Howell not only is Willie Taggart's first quarterback commitment at Florida State, but he also gives the 'Noles a great deal of momentum heading into Saturday's spring game -- which he also will be attending.

To get a better understanding of what type of impact Howell will have on the Seminoles, we spoke with Rivals recruiting analyst Adam Friedman, who has been scouting the strong-armed quarterback for an extended time .

How will Howell fit in at FSU?

Florida State's recruitment of Rivals250 quarterback Sam Howell goes all the way back to when Howell was offered a scholarship by Maryland -- and that first offer came from current FSU offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Walt Bell

At the time, Bell was the Terrapins' offensive coordinator. Once Bell left Maryland and teamed up with Willie Taggart at FSU, the Seminoles became major players in this one.

"I can't give enough credit about the job Walt Bell and Willie Taggart did in this recruitment," Friedman said. "That relationship paid big dividends for FSU. The relationship between the two and how well they work together -- and the conversations they have -- is outstanding. They just mesh really well. They understand the strengths and weaknesses of each other."

While Taggart and Bell are currently busy teaching FSU's returning quarterbacks how to transition from a pro-style offense to a spread attack, Friedman said it will be a very natural transition for Howell when he arrives in Tallahassee.

"It's a really great fit," Friedman said. "Willie Taggart's offenses aren't known for going under center, and I think that plays to Sam's strengths. He has a big arm and does a really good reading the defenses and getting rid of the ball early.

"Quick release, and he can hit all the throws. He's also more athletic than people give him credit for. It will be great to see how he works with the FSU receivers."

Friedman said one thing Howell definitely has going for him is a supreme level of confidence. It's not to the level of arrogance or cockiness, but he clearly believes in his abilities.

"He's been confident because he does such a great job with preparation," Friedman said. "I think that's one of the best traits about him. He watches a ton of film and wants to know as much about the game as he can. He goes out there and practices hard. He's also a big-time student and plays baseball. Plus he has an air about him when he's in the huddle. People listen to what he has to say because they believe he knows what he's talking about."
