Mobile, Ala. -- DB Jalyn Armour-Davis

MOBILE, Ala. -- Although he is regarded as one of the nation's top defensive backs, Rivals250 member Jalyn Armour-Davis knows he will be doing a lot more for his St. Paul's Episcopal team than simply covering opposing receivers.

So, even though he is juggling both track and spring football, Armour-Davis said he has no problem at all taking on an expanded role on defense while also helping out with the Saints' offense.

"Offense has always been natural to me," he told Warchant during the latest stop on our Spring Recruiting Tour. "I'll likely play slot [receiver] some this year, but I think they will move me around a lot. For me, it helps being on offense with what I do on defense because I can work on my ball skills. So that translates to both sides. With DB, I'm really working on a combination of stuff. [Being] more physical, working even more on my footwork."

The 6-foot, 170-pound cornerback could play corner or safety in college, but most teams seem to like him most at corner. Rivals rates him as the nation's No. 15-ranked cornerback, and his stock has continued to rise throughout his high school career.

"I think it first took off when I went to a team camp as a freshman," Armour-Davis said. "This was the first time I actually went against other guys at DB. I learned a lot with my hand placement, technique, and I knew that's where I would play in college. I think the biggest difference in my game now compared to my freshman year is the strength. I couldn't jam as good then, and you see a major difference in my game now, and it helps you control the route."

This past weekend, Armour-Davis showed again just how explosive of an athlete he is, winning state Class 5A championships in both the 100 meters and the triple-jump.

On the recruiting front, things have been hectic for Armour-Davis, although he did cut things down some when he narrowed his college list to six schools -- Florida State, Auburn, USC, Florida, Georgia and LSU. The Seminoles are believed to be a major player with Armour-Davis, who has visited FSU multiple times this spring.

"I gave that list, but to be honest, I could have added one or two others that are still in the mix," he told Warchant. "I can tell you there's no doubt FSU will be in there. I love that place. That's a place where I can see myself not wanting to leave at any point. I'm so comfortable every time I'm there. I really like the coaches, and that's a place I could feel really good at if I went there. It's hard to explain, but there's a lot of comfort there with the people and the campus."

His bond is also very strong with his main recruiter, defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach Charles Kelly.

"Our relationship is tough to explain," Armour-Davis said. "There are just certain guys that you know from the moment you meet them you connect with. Coach Kelly and me have that, and we have the same mindset on football. And that's what makes our bond special and very strong. He's not going to tell you what you want to hear to make you feel good and everything. He's going to keep it straight with the facts. He knows what to expect from me, and I know what to expect from him as a coach and person. My mom really likes him a lot because of who he is."
