Lawayne McCoy, Cam Coleman among fastest risers in Rivals' 250 rankings

McCoy, a Miami Central receiver, vaulted up to No. 123. The 6-foot-2, 170-pound McCoy made his verbal commitment to Florida State in April and is a four-star receiver.

"Every time we see and/or learn something new of Lawayne McCoy, we like him that much more," Rivals analyst John Garcia said. "The breakout junior season, in helping the Rockets to another state title, was only the beginning of this ascent. Not only was the Florida State commitment a big play waiting to happen, but he flashes elite traits along the way. He works with great length and linear speed, but we continue to see evolved ball skills to pair with those natural traits, combining for a true high-level blue-chip projection.

"There is an ease when McCoy is working down the field and it remains when the ball is in the air and at the catch point, critical for high ceiling development. As his slender frame continues to fill out, we expect him to add more physicality to his game. When that meets continued advancement as a route-runner from a technical standpoint, McCoy could be considered one of the top overall prospects -- not just wide receivers -- the class of 2024 has to offer. There is a reason why several college programs remain in pursuit of the Miami native's services, something that won't soon slow into his senior campaign."

Another fast riser in the class of 2024 is Phenix City (Ala.) wide receiver Cam Coleman, who competed at FSU’s elite camp on Saturday. Coleman checks in at No. 23 after not being ranked.

“No player in this update to the Rivals 250 made a higher debut than Coleman,” Rivals national analyst Adam Gorney wrote. “At 6-foot-3, Coleman puts tremendous stress on defenses. At his size, his short-area quickness is very impressive and he has the long speed to just outrun defenders. Coleman has outstanding ball skills and that hand-eye coordination should serve him well at the next level.”

Coleman visited FSU last fall for the Georgia Tech game and said after the Elite Camp that the Seminoles are high on his list.

"I could be on an official visit anywhere, but I chose to come here because of where they stand on my list..." Coleman said. "I feel like it's a great program here. Coach Norvell has something special going on here. I wanted to experience it."

Gorney views Coleman and cornerback target Charles Lester as among the highest-rated four-star prospects who are fighting for a fifth star.
